How Fast is Your Internet Connection?
If you recently switched to Verizon FIOS Internet Service, you know their base plan offers maximum
"downstream" (from the Verizon Central Office to your PC) speeds up to 20 Mbps (million bits per second). Verizon's
FIOS FAQs
explain that "actual download and upload speeds will vary based on numerous factors, such as the condition
of wiring at your location, computer configuration, Internet and network congestion, and the speed of the website servers you
access, among other factors."
You can test your connection speed a number of ways, but McAfee's Internet Connection Speedometer is free and safe. Give it
a try...you may be surprised at the results!

Verizon Wireless Problems, Fall 2008
For Verizon Wireless subscribers who have experienced service problems during September, Verizon has named an executive ombudsman to address the problem and develop a compensation plan for those affected. The ombudsman said that Verizon will be installing a temporary 120 foot tower by Friday, September 25th. Please let the AGWG know if you are still having service problems after that date. (AGWGCivicAssociation.org). If you wish to be compensated, each affected party must contact Verizon Customer Service and file a formal request. The Ombudsman will contact the association next week to seek input on the temporary fix and compensation plan.
